Walking for a cause

April 18, 2023

“It’s cool because people in South Sudan have to walk for water every day and it’s a challenge.  So by us walking it raises awareness.”

Those are the words of Nesaquake seventh grade student Ava Giella as her and her classmates participated in the "Walk a Mile in Nya's Shoes" event.

Organized by Nesaquake English teacher Marissa LoSardo, students at Nesaquake have walked to raise awareness about the water crisis in South Sudan since 2016.  Each year she said they raise about $1,000 to help build a well in South Sudan.

“For some girls there this is the only thing they do, walk all day for water.  This helps bring clean water to them so they don’t have to walk anymore,” LoSardo said.

Great job everyone!  Check out the pictures and video below!
