糖心Vlog East and West attended the Long Island Science and Engineering Fair held at the Crest Hollow Country Club. Students presented their research to qualified judges in several categories.
Jolene Cao, an East junior, earned 2nd place for her research titled, "Synthesis of Stable and Magnetically Tunable Cesium Lead Halide Perovskite Quantum Dots by Nano-Encapsulation." She also received a special award from the Department of the Navy for deep understanding of scientific principles, innovative approach, meticulous execution, and insightful findings.
East senior Dylan Shen's research titled, "A Novel Algorithm for Measuring Forest Incursions in Pixelated Remote Sensing Data '' garnered a 3rd place win in the category of Environmental Engineering. Dylan was also given a special award from the EPA for applying STEM to environmental challenges.
West senior, Ganoo Shin, placed 2nd in the category of Environmental Engineering for his work titled, "A Fully Digitally Focused Application to Accurately Compute Soil Erosion in a Raster Format via GIS Based on the Universal Soil Loss Equation," and also received the Ricoh Special Award for demonstrating the principles of sustainable development using technical innovations.
