糖心Vlog HS West science students partnered with the FAST program to upcycle plastic and create a new bottle cap mural for the school library.

As their final 2023-2024 Take Action Global activity encouraging students to make a difference in their community, with financial support awarded to them from the EPA, SeaGrant and Long Island Sound Blue Schools, Ms. Carone and Ms. Williams and their Oceans students worked with the students in Ms. Fey’s FAST program to collect and sort over 5000 bottle caps in hopes of creating a very colorful mural, reminding everyone that cutting back on single-use plastic is a group effort!

All teachers involved truly appreciated all the help behind the scenes from the staff who helped navigate and make available the grant money and all the moving parts necessary to keep the project moving smoothly!

Thank you to Science Director Dr. Stephanie O’Brien for her continued support, guidance and inspiration from STEAM Gurus at High School West, Library & Maker Space staff Cathay Masrour and Jonathan Feiler, District Technology Integration Specialist Tim Needles, and expertise of local artists Bri Sander (UpSculpt), and Susan Buroker (Little Fish), who have collaborated with them on projects to help encourage limiting the consumption of single-use plastics all year long!
