With the help of Mrs. Manning, Mrs. Lamitola's first grade class at Tackan Elementary created a book from beginning to end. The students have been learning about what it takes to become an author and illustrator through the teachings of Geodes decodable books. The students were inspired by the author Leo Lionni in the Geode book, Fed by Art, to create art like his. Students used tissue paper and ripped them up into little pieces. They used mod podge to glue the pieces into place to create a background for their story. In addition, students are currently learning how an idea becomes a book.
They have also learned how inventors like Johannes Gutenberg and his printing press led to the technology we have today that allows us access to so many wonderful books. Mrs. Manning scanned their artwork into Book Creator. The students were able to type their story and add their voice to each page.
